Fall at the Coast is always a special time, with cooler weather, beautiful sunsets and even more chances to connect. For us, fall means getting together for our annual Taste of the Coast, celebrating National Estuaries Week, fall marine debris cleanup and shellebrating our favorite bivalve during Oyster Month in October.
The changing of the seasons certainly brings a lot to the coast, and we can’t wait to see you soon!
As summer begins to wind down, we’re reflecting on an incredible Pelican Awards celebration and looking forward to even more opportunities to connect, whether at one of our upcoming Green Drinks events or at the Taste of the Coast celebration in September.

We’ve been enjoying a busy spring, and an even busier summer is on the way. Big things are on the horizon this month – our Shellfish Mariculture Hub broke ground in Carteret County, the Federation also welcomed a new team member, and we’ve got a number of great events coming up. We’re also getting closer and closer to moving into our new Center for Coastal Protection and Restoration. With so much going on, we can’t wait to see you at the coast!
As we settle into the New Year, we’re excited about everything this year has in store, from fan-favorite events coming up quickly to a renewed commitment to protecting and restoring our beautiful coast. The Federation’s staff is expected to have another busy year of oyster work in the Pamlico Sound, with several restoration projects set to begin soon, dozens of educational outreach events planned, and we’re getting closer to a major milestone in the fight against marine debris.
Oysters are often considered just a tasty dish at one of your favorite restaurants, but they actually play a vital role in the health of the coastal ecosystems they inhabit.
