Earlier this week, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality announced it is hosting three public hearings on the potential oil and gas leasing program.

Your attendance is needed. Please plan to attend one of the three public hearings. DEQ is looking for comments and will accept them at the hearings or in writing. Send written comments to Timothy Webster at timothy.webster@ncdenr.gov or 217 West Jones St., 1601 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-1601. Written comments are due by Aug. 15. Click here for talking points.

Wear your North Carolina Coastal Federation t-shirt or a blue shirt if you can.

On July 3, the federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management issued a request for public comment as it begins the process of creating a new 2019-24 energy leasing plan. North Carolina’s coast should not be included in this plan. Our coastal environment and economy are too valuable to put at risk.

You can sign our petition or submit your own comment. The federation will be sending in the petition signatures along with its comments by the Aug. 17 deadline.
