Flooding in Atlantic Beach
Flooding in the Town of Atlantic Beach

In February 2021, the Atlantic Beach Town Council unanimously approved a Watershed Restoration and Stormwater Resiliency Plan created in partnership by the Town, LDSI Engineering, the Coastal Federation and Eastern Carolina Council of Governments. The key goal of the plan is to reduce the volume of runoff contributing to flooding and water quality impairment after heavy rains. The plan’s key strategy is to use nature-based stormwater management strategies that enable rainwater to soak into the ground instead of funneling the rain to nearby waters. The plan is currently being reviewed by the N.C. Division of Water Resources for final approval and implementation projects are being planned.
