FrogWatch USA: Start of Season Social
January 25 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Did you know frogs are considered “indicator species?” Their presence implies that a wetland is healthy. Wetlands provide habitat for thousands of species of aquatic and terrestrial plants and animals. Wetlands are valuable for flood protection, water quality improvement, shoreline erosion control, and so much more.
FrogWatch USA volunteers are invited to celebrate the start of the season with the North Carolina Coastal Federation and NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher’s FrogWatch chapter. Practice identifying frog calls while enjoying some delicious refreshments and socializing with other frog loving folks.
FrogWatch USA is a citizen science program established in 1998 to provide individuals, groups and families with opportunities to learn about wetlands in their communities by reporting on the calls of local frogs and toads. Volunteers learn how to identify frogs and toads by their calls and collect data from listening sessions to share with scientists.
