Summer Camps

Across the North Carolina Coast

Let your kids get outside and experience all the coast has to offer this summer! We have three locations: the Outer Banks, the Crystal Coast and Wrightsville Beach. You can pull a net and see what you discover, plant marsh grasses, catch a crab and more.

Jones Island Day Camp

This summer, children can explore the wonders of the coast with the federation’s Coastal Discovery Summer Camps. Campers will take part in hands-on activities to learn about coastal environments and wildlife. They will go on expeditions with local scientists and professionals to explore the disciplines of coastal science and management. Campers will also participate in a service learning project to protect local waterways and earn their Jr. Ranger Certification at Hammocks Beach State Park.

Are you looking for a way to earn community service hours while having fun and learning about the coast? North Carolina Coastal Federation staff will join forces with the pier to take participants out into a variety of habitats and restoration projects right here in the community. You’ll get your feet wet and your hands dirty as you lend a hand on a variety of projects from marsh grass plantings and oyster restoration to biological species monitoring. Building Oyster Reefs & Designing Rain Gardens

The camps are geared towards increasing the students’ skills in science, technology, engineering and math; instilling a connection to their local environment; and empowering them with the ability to develop solutions to problems that will help them in all aspects of their lives. This will be done through interactive field activities in the salt marsh, beach and tidal creeks around the federation’s education center. Students will also meet local experts and travel to local labs and project sites.
