SUMMARY:Green Drinks Morehead City
DESCRIPTION:Green Drinks is a casual monthly gathering for people who care about our coast. Whether you enjoy boating\, beach days\, or simply want to keep our waters clean and our communities strong\, this is a relaxed space to connect with others\, hear from local voices\, and stay up to date on important coastal topics. Each month\, we’ll highlight a different issue—like salt marsh restoration\, oysters\, or local happenings that impact the coast—and talk about how we can work together to protect the places we all enjoy. Grab a drink from the bar and join the conversation—these events are free and open to the public. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho: Anyone who loves our coast! \n\n\n\nWhat: A relaxed\, come-as-you-are meetup featuring a new coastal topic each month \n\n\n\nWhere: Rooftop Bar at Jack’s on the Waterfront – 513 Evans St\, Morehead City\, NC 28557 \n\n\n\nWhen: One Thursday a month from 5:30–7:30 PM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJuly’s Speaker | Dr. Joel Fodrie \n\n\n\nProfessor\, Thomas Willis Lambeth Distinguished Chair in Public Policy\, Department of Earth\, Marine and Environmental Sciences \n\n\n\nDirector\, Duke University Marine Lab \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Joel Fodrie is an ecologist whose research focuses on the population dynamics of fishes and shellfishes\, estuarine ecology\, and the health of coastal ecosystems. He earned his PhD from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and his BA in Biology and History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. \n\n\n\nHis research examines marine population connectivity\, the impacts of environmental change on coastal habitats\, seagrass ecology\, shellfish mariculture\, and fisheries management. Since 2010\, he has led the Institute of Marine Sciences’ long-term shark survey\, contributing more than 115 peer-reviewed publications and playing an active role in coastal resource management across North Carolina. These articles appear in journals such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences\, Ecology\, and BioScience. Over the last decade\, he has become increasingly engaged in coastal resource management in North Carolina. \n\n\n\nIn this presentation\, Dr. Fodrie will provide an overview of his research\, with a special focus on sharks and their vital role in maintaining healthy coastal ecosystems and the marine communities he studies. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how shark populations influence the balance and resilience of North Carolina’s coastal waters. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\nLocation:
