SUMMARY:POSTPONED: Wetland Planting at Carolina Beach State Park
DESCRIPTION:Due to the weather and flooding out at Carolina Beach State Park\, the wetland planting has been postponed until Thursday\, October 16\, from 10:00 am -12:00 pm. \n\n\n\nJoin the North Carolina Coastal Federation for the final planting in our three-year wetland restoration project at Carolina Beach State Park! This is a wonderful opportunity for returning volunteers to see how the wetland has transformed over the past three years—and for new participants to get involved before the project wraps up. Volunteers will help plant native wetland species as we complete this multi-year restoration effort. \n\n\n\nWetlands serve as natural buffers against storms\, filter pollutants\, provide essential wildlife habitat\, and support resilient coastal communities. This area\, once overrun with invasive phragmites\, is being restored with native plants that benefit birds\, mammals\, and aquatic life. Your efforts will leave a lasting impact on the ecosystem and help prepare the site for a new observation platform that will provide future educational opportunities. \n\n\n\nThis event is family-friendly and open to all ages\, but please note that the work is physically demanding and will take place in muddy\, wet\, and potentially hot and humid conditions. No prior experience is necessary—basic training will be provided. All tools\, supplies\, snacks\, and refreshments will be available on-site\, along with restroom facilities and parking. \n\n\n\nThis project is part of the Restoration Plan for the Natural Resources Damages Assessment for the Kerr-McGee EPA Superfund Site in Navassa. We are grateful for the support of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service\, NOAA\, and the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality\, along with our valued partners at the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation and the dedicated staff at Carolina Beach State Park. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here!\n\n\n\n\n\nPhoto by Alan Cradick\n\n\n\n Photo by Alan Cradick\n\n\n\n Photo by Alan Cradick
