Southeast North Carolina Regional Resilience Workshop for Local Governments

The workshop is an opportunity for local government staff and elected officials to provide input on the State Climate Risk Assessment and Resiliency Plan to be developed under Governor Cooper’s Executive Order 80. Experts and other communities will share updates, best practices and helpful resources. Attendees will also be engaged in a series of facilitated discussions on priorities and challenges for increasing long-term resilience.
The objectives of the workshop are to:
- Provide the opportunity for local government staff, managers and elected officials to give input and guidance as to what the most important issues and greatest needs are to be included in the State Climate Risk Assessment and Resiliency Plan being developed under Governor Cooper’s Executive Order 80.
- Learn about local climate impacts and approaches being used by other communities to build resilience.
- Get list of helpful resources (tools, data, planning/policy guidance and funding or assistance sources) that can help communities adapt and build resilience to natural hazards and climate change impacts.
- Results from the workshop will also be presented at the Coastal Resilience Summit (6/11-6/12/19) in Havelock, N.C. which is open to everyone.
Free lunch and about 5 hours of continuing education credits for planners and floodplain managers will be available.
The workshop is being hosted by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality – Division of Coastal Management in coordination with the North Carolina Coastal Federation, Eastern Carolina Council, Cape Fear Public Utilities Authority, Albemarle Commission, Mid-East Commission, The Nature Conservancy, North Carolina Sea Grant, UNC School of Government, Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Partnership (APNEP) and others.
