Secret Garden Planting at DREAMS
October 24 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Embrace the spirit of NC Oyster Month this October by joining us in a meaningful initiative! Oysters hold a vital role in coastal ecosystems, contributing to improved water quality and providing a haven for various marine life. Beyond their ecological importance, these delectable mollusks support local economies and livelihoods, particularly for watermen across our state.
You have the power to make a difference in safeguarding our treasured oyster populations. One impactful way is to combat stormwater runoff through nature-based solutions. Employing native plants to capture, absorb, and filter stormwater runoff is a step toward a healthier coastal environment.
Here’s where the DREAMS Center for Arts Education comes into action. We’re thrilled to introduce the upcoming ‘Secret Garden’ project, a haven for both nature and creativity. To bring this vision to life, we’re seeking volunteers to collaborate with our Federation staff, NC Sea Grant, and the skilled DREAMS Gardner, Jessi Schott. Your assistance will involve planting shrubs, perennials, vines, and more, along with some initial maintenance tasks. Together, we’ll embark on the exciting first stage of creating their new secret garden.
