National Estuaries Week Celebration at Navassa
September 16 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Celebration of vibrant coastal ecosystems has expanded to an entire week of appreciation since the first National Estuaries Day in 1988. From Sept. 16 to 23, the North Carolina Coastal Federation and other Restore America’s Estuaries member organizations all over the country will recognize the importance of estuaries by hosting events during National Estuaries Week that celebrate the many benefits these ecosystems provide. Estuaries help support the economy, preserve centuries-old cultures and traditions, maintain vital food supplies, protect nature’s bounty and are unique educational resources.
Join the federation Saturday, Sept. 16 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Davis Creek Park Public Estuarine Access in Navassa and participate in a variety of activities that help us appreciate our estuaries. Participants of this family-friendly event will learn about estuaries and their habitats in the touch tank area. There will also be a station to create your own fish print art on a t-shirt or paper, along with a fun activity to learn about marine debris.
Sept. 16 is also International Coastal Cleanup Day, so gloves, bags, buckets and pickers will be available for those who want to do their part to keep the park clean.
This event is free and open to the public.
