Living Shoreline Open House
November 27 @ 11:30 am - 2:00 pm
Are you experiencing shoreline erosion?
Living shorelines are an innovative technique that protects the coast from erosion, while simultaneously preserving natural ecosystems. During the Open House, local professionals and contractors will be on hand to share information and answer questions on how you can build a living shoreline on your property.
Shoreline change and erosion are continuous processes, driven by currents, waves, wind, storms, sea levels and human influences. Bulkheads and riprap are “hardened” structures commonly installed along sound-side shorelines to try to reduce erosion. Unfortunately, they often destroy natural marsh and cause increased erosion of nearby properties. If you live on the water, we have solutions to shoreline erosion that maintain the natural marsh. Called “living shorelines,” these systems create a more natural and productive shore.
Benefits of living shorelines include:
– Reduced erosion
– Maintained natural marsh
– Protected coastal habitat
– Filtered and improved water quality
– Buffered shore for changing water levels
Learn more during the Open House event. We will hear presentations from local professionals and also take a field trip to some nearby living shoreline projects. To help us better understand your erosion issues, feel free to bring photos of your shoreline.
This is not a floating event. Please plan to stay for the entirety of the event.
