Coastal Ambassador Training: “The Old Men and the Sea” Book Tour
September 24 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
We invite anyone interested in volunteering with the North Carolina Coastal Federation to attend our orientation session from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at our coastal education center located at 309 W. Salisbury St. Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480.
Afterward, our returning volunteers and coastal ambassadors will join the federation staff and southeast regional advisory committee at 6:30 p.m. for an update on the federation’s events and activities before attending “The Old Men and the Sea” 2019 book tour hosted at our center. Gilbert M. Gaul, a four-time Pulitzer finalist and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, along with Orrin H. Pilkey, former director of marine geology at Duke University will be stopping by the federation on their book tour to discuss their recent publications and the important yet poorly understood history of risks at the coasts.
The Southeast Coastal Ambassadors are a special group of volunteers that serve as representatives of the federation. The program is designed to be fun and interactive, allowing volunteers to socialize with one another while learning more about the work of the federation and our coastal environment. Volunteers qualify to be a Southeast Coastal Ambassador when they have attended at least three trainings per year and participated in a minimum of three federation volunteer events. Those who wish to join the Coastal Ambassadors group are required to attend an orientation training session held at 5:30 p.m. before the evening program meetings. This program is for people 16 years or older.
