Coastal Ambassador Training: Tackling Marine Debris with Plastic Ocean Project
August 28 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
The North Carolina Coastal Federation is committed to keeping our coast free of marine debris, but doing so comes with many challenges. Surrounding ourselves with experts on the topic is just one of our approaches to tackling this issue. Join us this month to hear a compelling presentation from Bonnie Monteleone, founder and executive director of Plastic Ocean Project, about the dangers of plastic marine debris and the solutions that can make a difference.
We invite anyone interested in volunteering with the North Carolina Coastal Federation to attend our orientation session from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28 at our coastal education center located at 309 W. Salisbury St. Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480.
Afterwards, our returning volunteers and coastal ambassadors will join us at 6:30 p.m. for a special presentation from Bonnie Monteleone, founder and executive director of Plastic Ocean Project. The mission of Plastic Ocean Project is to educate through field research, implement progressive outreach initiatives, and incubate solutions to address the global plastic pollution problem. We will have the opportunity to hear an engaging presentation about the current state of plastic marine debris and specific actions we can take to combat this issue.
The Southeast Coastal Ambassadors are a special group of volunteers that serve as representatives of the federation. The program is designed to be fun and interactive, allowing volunteers to socialize with one another while learning more about the work of the federation and our coastal environment. Volunteers qualify to be a Southeast Coastal Ambassador when they have attended at least three trainings per year and participated in a minimum of three federation volunteer events. Those who wish to join the Coastal Ambassadors group are required to attend an orientation training session held at 5:30 p.m. before the evening program meetings. The next evening program and orientation will be Monday, September 24th. This program is for people 16 years or older.
