Coastal Ambassador Training: Gen-X and Emerging Contaminants in Our Waters
May 30 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
We invite anyone interested in volunteering with the North Carolina Coastal Federation to attend our orientation session from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 30 at our Wilmington office and education center located at 309 W. Salisbury St. Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480.
Afterwards, our returning volunteers and coastal ambassadors will join us at 6:30 p.m. for the training portion of the program where we will hear from Cordelia Norris, a concerned citizen that brought together a community last year when she hosted Clean Water Week. This week long event marked the one-year anniversary of the public announcement of GenX and brought together numerous organizations committed to protecting our water quality.
Training our volunteers and ambassadors on emerging contaminants is very prevalent to the federation since we are hosting a public forum on May 31 to hear from the team of researchers who are working hard to address this issue. For more information on this free public forum or to register for a seat, please click here.
The Southeast Coastal Ambassadors are a special group of volunteers that serve as representatives of the federation. The program is designed to be fun and interactive, allowing volunteers to socialize with one another while learning more about the work of the federation and our coastal environment. Volunteers qualify to be a Southeast Coastal Ambassador when they have attended at least three trainings per year and participated in a minimum of three federation volunteer events. Those who wish to join the Coastal Ambassadors group are required to attend an orientation training session held at 5:30 p.m. before the evening program meetings. The next evening program and orientation will be Tuesday, June 25. This program is for people 16 years or older.
