IMPORTANT
COASTAL MEETINGS OF GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES
- Coastal Resources Commission
The CRC is the governor-appointed rule-making commission under the Coastal Area Management Act. Meetings are open to the public and your attendance is encouraged. Public input is invited on Thursdays at 9 am. For meeting agendas and further information, check out the Division of Coastal Management web page. - Coastal Habitat Protection Plans
The Coastal Habit Protection Plans are the result of the state Fisheries Reform Act of 1997, which directed the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to develop plans for protecting habitats necessary to support and maintain coastal fisheries. The same legislation gave the three commissions the responsibility of reviewing, approving and ultimately implementing the plans. - Marine Fisheries Commission
The MFC is a citizen's commission appointed by the governor to make rules and regulations from the laws that specifically affect marine fisheries. Meetings are open to the public. For meetings times and location visit the Division of Marine Fisheries website or call them at 252-726-7021. - Environmental Management Commission
The EMC is a governor-appointed commission that deals with environmental issues affecting the coast and other areas in the state. This commission meets in the ground-floor hearing room of the Archdale Building at 512 N. Salisbury Street in downtown Raleigh. Meetings begin at 9 am and are open to the public.
GENERAL EVENTS
- Oyster Shell Recycling: Transfer oyster shells from restaurants in the SE region to designated oyster shell stockpiles. Volunteers will use their own vehicle to pull the double axle oyster shell recycling trailer. Please contact Ted Wilgis at tedw@nccoast.org for more information or to volunteer.
- Oyster Relay: Help move bags of oyster shell with newly settled oyster larvae attached from settling tanks at J&B AquaFoods to holding racks in Stump Sound. Due to the nature of the oyster larvae settling process, we only have a few days notice of each oyster relay event.
- Trail Stewards: Help monitor the Hoop Pole Nature Trail (Atlantic Beach) and/or the Patsy Pond Nature Trail (Newport). Because these trails are open to the public, the Coastal Federation needs to monitor these trails for maintenance needs and problems. Volunteers are asked to walk the short trails twice a month and report any findings to the NCCF.
For more information or to sign up for an event,
please contact Rachael Carlyle, NCCF's Operations Manager
at 252-393-8185 or fill out our Volunteer Questionnaire.
