OCEAN ISLE -- Homeowners on the east end of Ocean Isle Beach will get some relief soon for their eroding beach.
The Ocean Isle Beach Board of Commissioners met Monday morning to sign a memorandum of agreement with the N.C. Department of Transportation for sandbags and road repairs on the island’s east end.
Mayor Debbie Smith said the DOT plans to place new sandbags from Charlotte Street to within about 140 feet of Shallotte Boulevard, and the state will pay the estimated $300,000 cost of the sandbags and road repairs to Second Street.
Smith said she hoped work on project could begin within a few weeks.
