2006 Lower Cape Fear Celebration of Earth Day!

The Earth needs your help. Discover what issues affect our environment, health and community. Learn ways you can get involved and become part of the solution. Bring the whole family to celebrate Earth Day 2006 from noon until 6pm on Saturday, April 22nd at Hugh MacRae Park.

Over 45 environmental exhibits will be on display representing various organizations and businesses. Tidal Creek Co-op and Mellow Mushroom will offer food and organic beer. From funk to bluegrass, diverse music from great local live bands will fill the air.

There will be exciting activities for all ages centered around taking care of the planet, including the popular Kid’s Eco Zone, which will be bigger and better this year!!!  Activities will include: biodegradable bubble making, a touch tank, soil searches and much more. Come check out entries in the 2nd Annual Funky Junk Contest!  Participate in oyster shell recycling, check out a rain barrel, learn about bio-fuel and much more!

This year’s theme – Earth Day 2006: Get Dirty! – was chosen to inspire residents to get involved in environmental activities inside and outside of their homes, work, and more!

Hands-on Wilmington volunteers will plant a Habitat Garden at Hugh MacRae and workshops will be offered on how you can create wildlife habitat in your own backyard! Also, make sure to enter a raffle for a kayak package, valued at over $1000. Tickets are available at Great Outdoor Provision Company, Tidal Creek Co-Op and Airlie Gardens.

Join us on Saturday, April 22 for a fun-filled day of food, music and community.
