TITLE: Coastal Restoration Specialist
STATUS: Full-time, exempt
LEVEL: Salary Range $33,000-$55,000 (Non-supervisor) REGION: Northeast (Manteo)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The CRS works as part of the regional office team and with Federation departmental leaders to manage all aspects of the coastal restoration activities of the assigned region of coastal North Carolina.
The CRS will conduct field restoration activities (approximately 30%of time), manage restoration projects, provide for grant administration and coordination, permitting and restoration/construction oversight, and monitoring of all restoration sites. The CRS will also work with other staff to advance the overall mission of the North Carolina Coastal Federation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serve as integrated member of the NE regional office team to achieve overall organizational priorities for education, outreach, advocacy, CoastKeeping, restoration and preservation programs.
- Plan, design, manage and implement Federation restoration agenda in assigned geographic region.
- Administer and conduct specific restoration projects as assigned.
- Be responsibile for project budgets.
- Provide leadership in planning and managing fieldwork.
- Be responsible for design and implementation of required project monitoring.
- Maintain records of restoration projects, including grant reports, GIS maps and database information.
- Schedule routine assistance from grant-writing staff to research, develop and maintain adequate funding for restoration projects.
- Serve as the official NCCF spokesperson for specific geographical region for assigned projects and responsibilities.
- Keep abreast of new knowledge, research and trends that affect NCCF's restoration mission.
- Update and upgrade restoration portion of NCCF's website under procedures outlined by webmaster.
- Work effectively with NCCF restoration volunteers and interns.
- Effectively convey the Federation's message at local, state and federal levels through restoration project tours, workshops, conferences and public events.
- Participate in team and organization-wide planning and goal-setting; maintain contact with project partners and volunteers.
- Seek out, implement and/or assist with regional programs that result in better protection and restoration of coastal water quality and habitat.
- Coordinate opportunities for membership recruitment with regional team and development staff.
KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Minimum education level of master’s degree in related natural resource field, or bachelor’s degree and three year’s experience in restoration or related work. East coast estuarine and coastal systems knowledge preferred.
- Ability to collect, record, and manage data collected in connection with restoration projects.
- Demonstrate excellent field ecology skills related to natural resource management and/or restoration of oyster and coastal wetlands habitats.
- Strong oral and written presentation skills.
- Strong communication and relationship skills; able to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Ability to work with diverse groups and provide liaison role among scientific community, government agencies, conservation groups and coastal residents and visitors.
- Proficient in independent project and grant management.
- Skilled in the use of applicable computer applications such as word processing, EXCEL, GIS, and online research tools.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, technology required for water quality and habitat restoration and monitoring.
- Significant experience working around the water. Boat handling preferred, but not required.
- Expected to maintain all assigned restoration and regional equipment (vehicles, tools, trailers, etc.) in a professional manner and in excellent condition.
- Heavy lifting over 40 lb. Subject to adverse weather conditions. Frequent daily and occasional overnight travel.
