Other Ways to Give

Distributions from an IRA

As a federally-qualified charity, the federation can accept donations directly from retirement accounts such as IRAs. For individuals aged 70½ and older, these are qualified charitable distributions which, in most cases, can count toward your required minimum distribution. To maximize your tax benefit, it’s important that these distributions come directly from your IRA to the charity. We always recommend contacting your financial advisor or tax advisor to answer specific questions about your financial needs.

To complete a distribution from an IRA, you’ll need:

  • The federation’s tax id number: 58-1494098
  • Mailing address: North Carolina Coastal Federation, 3609 Highway 24, Newport NC 28570
  • Contact Name: Sarah King, Development Director

Gifts In-Kind

The North Carolina Coastal Federation welcomes and appreciates your gifts in-kind. We’ve accepted property, conservation easements, boats, vehicles, furniture, computers, library books and other items that the federation might need to buy or would like to own. We sometimes are able to accept items that can be sold with the funds directed to our work. Contact us about specific items.

In-kind donations are accepted from businesses, corporations, other groups and individuals. Each gift in-kind is reviewed to be sure it meets our needs before it is accepted and acknowledged. The Internal Review Service (IRS) requires the donor to determine the value of a gift- the federation is not permitted to provide donation valuation. If the estimated value exceeds $5,000, the IRS requires an appraisal to substantiate the gift’s value.

For more information, please contact Development Director Sarah King at sarahk@nccoast.org or call 919-210-2617.

Gifts of Stock

When you give appreciated securities, you may receive an immediate tax deduction and savings on capital gains taxes. We prefer that stock be electronically transferred rather than certificates mailed to the office.

Please contact Sarah King (sarahk@nccoast.org or 919-210-2617) with any questions or to set up a transfer. The process is very easy, but we do recommend contacting us before Dec. 20 to initiate end-of-year transfers due to limited holiday hours at financial institutions.

If you have questions or want to setup a transfer, please contact Development Director Sarah King at sarahk@nccoast.org or call 919-210-2617.

Matching Gifts

Many companies offer a matching gift program to their employees to encourage support of organizations like the federation. If you do not know if your employer is a matching company, please check with your human resources department.

Please include your matching gift form with your donation or mail it at the time you make a donation to: NC Coastal Federation, 3609 Highway 24, Newport, NC 28570. This extra support is appreciated.
