Learn Today . . . Stewards Tomorrow

Halifax Academy, located at 1400 Three Bridges Road in Roanoke Rapids in Halifax County, is a private school serving 475 students in grades pre-K through 12. Carla Little, one of the first teachers to show interest in NCCF’s Wetland Nursery Program, has worked for years to get her students out and into the field for more conducive learning experiences. Her high school students are again involved in the nursery program this year and plan to travel to Carteret County in the fall to learn about estuarine and watershed systems. For their fall trip, they meet NCCF’s educator at Hoop Pole Creek in Atlantic Beach to measure water quality and learn about Spartina alterniflora firsthand.

This is the fifth year Halifax Academy has been involved with the Coastal Federation and wetland plantings. They have helped to plant over 7,500 Spartina alterniflora plants and over 150 Spartina patens plants.
